Recovery is the process where your body rebuilds itself after training. The harder you train, the more important recovery becomes — especially after heavy strength sessions, high-intensity cardio, or long-duration endurance training. Your body needs time and proper nutrition to rest, repair, and come back stronger.
The more you train, the stronger your body becomes — thanks to recovery. This process, known as supercompensation, allows the body to adapt and improve after stress. Without proper recovery, your body can’t rebuild efficiently, limiting your progress and performance.
It’s recommended to consume recovery products or meals within 30 minutes in the following cases:
- When training more than twice a day
- After intense sessions lasting 60 minutes or more
- After strength training
Optimal macronutrient ratio for recovery (according to sports researcher Søren Lavrsen, Aarhus University):
- 0.4 g protein per kg body weight
- 1.0 g carbohydrates per kg body weight
